Frequently Asked Questions at Sigma Eyehealth Centers

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes – we are welcoming patients of all ages in any of our three offices.  Please click here to schedule your appointment with us today!

What forms of payment do you accept?

We are happy to accept the following forms of payment:

  • Cash
  • Check
  • Mastercard, Visa, Discover
  • CareCredit

What is CareCredit and how do I apply for it?

CareCredit is different from a regular credit card.

You can use it to pay for out-of-pocket expenses not covered by medical insurance or your vision plan.  At Sigma, CareCredit can be used to pay for all services and materials, including your comprehensive eye exam, special procedures, insurance co-pays, glasses, and contacts.

With CareCredit, our offices offer 6-months, no-interest financing on most services and material purchases of $200 or more.*  Patients who receive the LipiFlow treatment can take advantage of special 12-months, no-interest financing on that procedure.

And, once you have a CareCredit card, it can also be used to pay for health and wellness care at over 200,000 other enrolled providers across the nation.  You can use it again and again at any location that accepts CareCredit.

You can apply for a CareCredit account by clicking here.

* Offer is valid when you make the minimum monthly payments and pay the full amount due by the end of the promotional period. If you do not, interest is charged from the original purchase date.

What vision plans and medical insurance plans do you accept?

We also gladly accept patients without insurance and extend a prompt-payment discount to these individuals.

Below are some of the more common medical insurance plans for which we are in network, but we encourage you to contact us with questions about your specific plan(s):

We are also in network for the following vision plan:

  • VSP

What is the difference between a vision plan and medical insurance?

The difference between your vision plan and your medical insurance can be very difficult to understand.  We will try to give you a brief overview here; however, we encourage you to contact us with questions regarding your specific coverage, and we will be happy to assist you in understanding your particular benefits.

A vision plan is designed to cover only routine eyecare services such as periodic eye examinations and refractive services.  Such plans will often often pay a portion of (or offer a discount on) eyeglasses or contact lenses.  Most vision plans to do not cover ANY medical testing, diagnosis, consultation or treatment.

Medical insurance can be used if you have any eyehealth problems or systemic health problems that have ocular complications (which your doctor may need to determine). These may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Dry eyes
  • Pink eye
  • An eye injury
  • Flashes or floater in your vision
  • Cataracts
  • Glaucoma
  • Complications from diabetes, high blood pressure or other health concerns

If a medical complication is determined during one of our comprehensive eye examinations, your medical insurance will be billed. You do not need a vision care rider on your medical insurance for this to occur. It is the same as seeing any other doctor – you pay a copay/deductible, and the medical insurance provider is billed.

In some cases, we can bill some services to your medical insurance and other services to your vision care plan. We will work with you to properly coordinate benefits to minimize your out-of-pocket expenses. For example, if it is determined during an exam that you have a medical condition, we can bill it to your medical insurance provider; however, you may still purchase eyeglasses and contacts using your vision care plan.

What is considered an "eye emergency"?

Our doctor will often say, “if an eye condition is bad enough to call about, it is bad enough to be seen.”  We encourage you to contact us for guidance whenever you have a concern regarding your eyes and/or vision.

For those who need a little more specific guidance, though, please contact us if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Severe Eye Pain
  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Flashes and floaters of recent origin
  • Sudden double vision
  • Trauma to the eyes, including foreign bodies or chemicals splashed in eyes
