Why We Measure Eye Length

Nearsightedness often gets worse as a child’s eye grows longer. That extra length changes where light focuses, making faraway things look blurry. Measuring eye length helps us track growth, not just changes in the glasses prescription.

At Anamosa, our ZEISS IOLMaster 500 measures the eye from front to back. Your doctor may call this axial length. It shows readings to 0.01 mm, one hundredth of a millimeter, so we can compare small changes over time.

We have this technology as part of the cataract consultation care we host. It also helps us follow children in our myopia-control program, which is why all myopia-control visits take place at Anamosa.

Help Slow Worsening Nearsightedness

Myopia means things far away look blurry. In many children, it gets worse as the eye grows longer. Myopia control aims to slow that change, rather than simply ordering stronger glasses each year. Both Sigma doctors provide this care at Anamosa.

Stellest: More Than Clearer Vision

Stellest lenses help your child see clearly and are designed to slow worsening nearsightedness. Around the clear center, tiny lens areas change how some light focuses in the eye. Your doctor explains whether these glasses are a good fit for your child.

Evidence, with Realistic Expectations

In the two-year study reviewed by the FDA, Stellest wearers had 71% less myopia progression on average than children wearing standard single vision lenses. This is a group comparison, not a promised result for an individual child. Your doctor explains suitability, wear instructions, and possible adaptation symptoms such as blur or halos.
