Medical Eye Care

Our doctors diagnose and manage eye conditions and coordinate with other healthcare professionals when additional care is needed.

Two Doctors. Eye Health First.

Dr. Gurgel and Dr. Somogy both diagnose and manage glaucoma and other eye diseases. They combine a careful examination with advanced imaging and targeted tests to look for changes early. Their goal is to start appropriate care before disease causes vision loss that affects your daily life.

Care for Eye Diseases

Care for glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and concerns at the back of the eye. Imaging, treatment, monitoring, and specialist referral are based on your findings.

A Closer Look at the Back of Your Eye

OCT is a light-based scan that shows the layers at the back of your eye and can help find swelling or fluid. OCT-A adds a picture of blood flow in the tiny vessels there, without a dye injection. Your doctor uses these views with the eye exam to understand changes caused by diabetes or other eye disease.

Connected Medical & Surgical Care

Our doctors manage eye disease and coordinate referrals when needed. Dr. Somogy also provides minor in-office procedures; our cataract partnership with Dr. Privett connects Anamosa consultations and hospital surgery with follow-up at Sigma.

Imaging Availability

OCT-A is not available at Marion. Call 319-462-4891 to arrange imaging at the appropriate Sigma office.

Your doctor determines when OCT-A is useful. It complements the examination and does not replace dilation (drops that widen your pupils so we can see inside your eyes) or every test that uses dye to show blood flow at the back of the eye.
